Did you know how to turn small talk into smart conversations?
This article definitely opened my mind.
I hope it does the same for you, if it’s not already the case !
Ask for stories, not answers
Instead of . . . Try
“How are you?” … “What’s your story? »
“How was your day?” … “What did you do today?”
“What’s your name?” … « What does your name mean? »
“How was your weekend? » … “What was the best part of your weekend?”
Break the mirror
Instead of repeating one’s sentence… Try
« It’s a beautiful day! »… They say that the weather was just like this when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. If that actually happened. (> Ok a bit adventurious, but it changes! )
Leapfrog over the expected response
Instead of … Try
« It’s hot today » … « In this dimension, yes »
« How was your flight? »… « I’d be more intrigued by an airline where your ticket price was based on your body weight and IQ. »
I am not too sure that I can implement 2 and 3,
But I really like the simple steps that can be taken via looking at point 1!
And you ? Do you have suggestions?
